Radiology is the branch or specialty of medicine that deals with the study and application of imaging technology like x-ray and radiation to diagnosing and treating disease.

Radiologists direct an array of imaging technologies (such as ultrasound, computed tomography (CT), nuclear medicine, positron emission tomography (PET) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)) to diagnose or treat disease. Interventional radiology is the performance of (usually minimally invasive) medical procedures with the guidance of imaging technologies. The acquisition of medical imaging is usually carried out by the radiographer or radiologic technologist.

Outside of the medical field (in comparison), radiology also encompasses the examination of the inner structure of objects using X-rays or other penetrating radiation.

What does a Radiology Technician Assistant actually do?
Q. I've googled Radiology Technologist and Technician but I cannot find anything on what the Technician Assistant does. Are there any Assistants here? Do assistants need any special kind of training? Certification? How do you like your job? What is the salary like? I am currently taking the prereqs for the Radiologic Technology program. Thanks to anyone who answers.

A. Depending on the location it can be a variety of responsibilities. Places I have worked at in the past have differing names for these individuals. Used to be aides, transporters, dark room assistants (when they were used), etc. It was usually an off-shift where the assistant did all of the above duties. I am sure the pay stinks, but I am believe it will be an asset when applying for a program, if you are not already in. Getting to know the other technologists and students and showing your competency is always a benefit.

A. The following website has a lot of information regarding this RT program. "It is strongly recommended that potential applicants begin with, at least, a college background in algebra, biology, physics, psychology, computer science. While these courses are not actually required, applicants with these fundamental courses have a greater advantage due to the point value system in the selection process." Although the site says that you aren't required to have these college level courses, you will have a higher chance of acceptance of being accepted to this program if you have completed them. Usually, the prospective students, who have the most experience or qualifications will get priority during the admissions process. Here, in California,… [cont.]
