What do you think of Organic Chemistry, Physical Chemistry and Analytical Chemistry?
Q. I have to take Organic I and II in the fall. I am dreading it. What do you think of the different areas of Chemistry that I listed? What do you think of Biochemistry? In addition to taking Organic I and II, Physical I and II and Analytical, I have to take "Intrumental Analysis", which shows how to use some cool technology used in the field of Chemistry. Sorry yes, I will be taking Organic Chem I in Fall 2009, and Organic Chem II in Spring 2010. Sorry for the confusion.

A. Just curious, why are you taking both Orgo I and II at the same time? You'd think that one would take them consecutively. In my opinion, organic chemistry is really not as hard as it's made out to be. Compared to my Thermodynamics class, it was a piece of cake! I had a really helpful cliffnotes type book that helped me alot. Using that book, I never had to open my actual textbook! That's how helpful that book was for me. Physical Chemistry is a rather odd area and you don't really use it outside of the class. It's a lot of equations about quantum mechanics. Analytical Chemistry is, in my opinion, the most annoying class. At my college, the professor started taking off points if your lab results were .01% off the class average… [cont.]

How do you write an analytical essay?
Q. I have a homework task to write an analytical essay but i dont know how. How do you write one? Thanks.

A. "An analytical essay (often referred to as a five-paragraph essay though there's nothing special about the number five) will attempt to explain the significance of a portion of a literary work, by proving some sort of point. The point you are trying to make may have to do with characterization, plot, theme, style or other literary concerns." "Before writing your analytical essay, you must focus in on what you wish to convey to the reader about the literary work. Once you have a focus, you must attempt to make some kind of point about the literary work in your essay." "The answer to your prompt, or the point you are trying to make, should be the main idea of your essay. This is called a thesis statement. Your thesis statement is your… [cont.]

What is the difference between Finite Difference Approximation and Analytical Solution of Advection-Diffusion ?
Q. What is the difference between Finite Difference Approximation and Analytical Solution of Advection-Diffusion Equation? For instance why we need to choose Finite Difference Approximation instead of analytical solution of Advection-Diffusion Equation, vise versa? What are the good and bad aspects of each?

A. This is not my field (statistical control systems in the presence of noise), but your question got me curious enough to browse what's available on-line. To me, the problem of analytically solving the partial differential equation, even in one dimension, is only reasonable for a steady-state distribution; e.g., time-invariant contaminant distribution and gradient, vector velocities, etc. When there is variation, particularly turbulence, numerical solutions would be the only ones I would try, and that means Finite Difference approximation, doesn't it? There are some interesting papers on FD solutions on the web, with plenty of references to books and papers found elsewhere. Just picking one specific problem in which you are interested… [cont.]
