tramadol and tingling fingers, and numbness?
Q. I just got put on tramadol and was wondering if it was normal to have tingling fingers and some numbness (in my face). It was such an odd feeling, I felt as if half of my lower side of face went numb. Any experience the same kind of thing? It was my first time taking it.

Numbness and tingling in fingers and toes I'm in doctor hell - Please help?
Q. Hi. I've been having tingling ,stiffness and numbness in my fingers and toes. It all started with my left pinkie being partially numb and progressed to both my left and right hands, especially the left pinkie, left and right index and thumb fingers. My family doctor diagnosed carpal tunnel. Yet, I was referred to a neurologist for confirmation. The neurologist detected some minimal carpal nerve damage in my right hand and compression of the left ulnar nerve at the elbow. However, according to this doctor, the damage is not enough to cause significant symptoms. Uh? Then, I went to the hand specialist, as per the neurologist. After an x-ray and exam, he sees nothing wrong and sends me back to my family doctor and physical therapy. I'm now… [cont.]

A. Go get a second neurological opinion. You definitely has some nerve damage going on. Since it has started in you toes now, I would hate to suggest something spinal. Get another opinion.

A. well if it is only the left arm, she should see a doctor immediately, if it is both arms or the right arm, then it is likely tendonitis, and an appt to have it treated is appropriate, but not an emergency.

Has anyone ever had tingling and numbness in their fingers?
Q. I'm 8.5 months pregnant, and since about month 3 I've had tingling in my finger tips. It's been getting worse and worse, and lately the numbness is really bad, but it feels like something is biting my fingers. The only thing I've found that helps is if my husband rubs my forearms, but I still wake up all night in pain. My midwife said they can't do anything til after the baby is born, but I've heard it will go away then also. The tingling used to go away after I had woken up and moved around a little, now it gets better but the numbness lasts all day. Does anyone have any ideas that are OK for pregnancy pain relief? Or any idea what could be causing the tingling and numbness?

A. I would think it's probably mild carpal tunnel, which can cause tingling and numbness in your fingers. It's because of all the water your body retains when you're pregnant, the swelling can also effect the carpal tunnel and is actually common during pregnancy. Wearing wrist braces while you sleep actually helps me out. Sometimes I wear them during the day too if it gets really uncomfortable. It will probably go away on its own once you have your baby. This has a lot of good info on carpal tunnel and pregnancy Good luck! You're almost done! :)

AM tingling & numbness in the fingers of my left hand has turned extremely painful. Any hand exercises help?
Q. What started out 2-3 years ago as "annoying" has become a daily morning ritual of near-extreme pain in my left middle & index fingers. I know carpel tunnel surgery would probably do the trick. But is there any relief "other than surgery" - perhaps something like hand/arm exercise that would give me immediate relief in the morning? I am greeted every morning with excruciating pain for 10-15 minutes and the numbness now lasts almost all day! This is a real problem for me since I have very limited use of my right arm & hand due to a birth injury. Please help me if you can! THANKS!

A. Tingling in the hands and feet at the same time is unusual. It's true that anxiety attacks can trigger hyperventilation (breathing too fast), which can temporarily cause tingling ('pins and needles') feeling around the mouth and in the fingers. However, that will go away when the hyperventilation resolves. In your age, and without a medical history (such as long-standing diabetes), you would need an appropriate work-up by a physician to find the cause (or causes) for your symptoms. Possibilities include a problem in the neck (such as a herniated disc, or spinal stenosis), peripheral neuropathy (which can result from a variety of conditions, including exposure to certain chemicals), medication reactions, etc. Other explanations would… [cont.]

Question about numbness and tingling in the fingers.?
Q. My coworker is a 58 year old male. He's been working with us for 3 or so years. He takes high blood pressure medicine and the doctors keep switching him to different kinds of medicines. He continues to have numbness and tingling in his fingers in the left side. He also constantly suffers from migraines. To me, I went to my doctor and she put me on toprol as a beta blocker for my migraines and once and only once did i notice that my fingers got numb for about an hour and then went away. I don't know if it's just a coincidence or what. I'm just trying to help my coworker figure out why his fingers go numb. The doctors can't seem to figure it out. He's already spent about 8 thousand dollars on test and still doesn't know. Oh and it' [cont.]

A. numbing and tingling are usualy due to neuritis, if ur friend is diabetec pt, thats explain it, if he's not . maybe nerve to the hand is compressed. compression might be due old trauma . or any inflamation. seeing physical therapy and applying some clinical examination wont cost much, and treamtn is granted with using ultra sonic and some exercise

Numbness in fingers during pregnancy?
Q. Hey everyone, i just turned 36 weeks today! Over the past week I've noticed when i wake up my right middle finger and sometimes my right ring finger are numb feeling. Its happening every morning now and yesturday i noticed it happening throughout the day. It is not accompanied by pain, just a numbing feeling maybe sometimes tingling. I was already tested for gestational diabetes at week 26, and it came back normal. Could this signify a problem? I just did some research online and read that numbness and tingling of the fingers are normal during pregnancy due to the swelling of the vessels in the wrists. Is this true or could i have a problem? Thanks!

A. I've had the same thing for about a month now. You are right. I asked my doctor and she said it's due to swelling. It's called pregnancy carpal tunnel. There's no need for surgery and it will go away after the baby is born. I've had extreme swelling of the legs and feet since about 20 weeks and now the numbness in 2 fingers on one hand. Sometimes my little toe goes numb too. It's another one of those things the doctor will tell you is "normal".

Tingling in fingers for almost 3 weeks?
Q. Hi, I have been having tingling in my pinkie( almost always ) and my ring finger, and some numbness/ting just below those fingers in the palm. This all started about 3 weeks ago, I was on computer, had anxiety, and poof my fingers! Only about twice in 3 weeks has it gone away, but not that long. ---So a couple days ago went to ER, my g/f wanted me to see sum1. So they did a brain CT and a spinal x-ray( top of spine ). The ER doc said my head was good and my top vertebrae were good. However, he didn't know. So what could this be? Also, I have no swelling, so it doesn't seem like carpel tunnel, and its my pinkie and ring fingers. Also, i get a slight sensation near my left calve, same side as my tingling hand. My blood pressure was 108/70,… [cont.]

Can tendonitis in the wrists cause numbness or tingling in the hands?
Q. I developed tentonitis in both wrists about a year ago while working as a teamster in a warehouse. It took over a month to heal up, and I have flare-ups on a regular basis because my current job requires me to type all day (I no longer work in the warehouse). Prickling, numbness and tingling in the tips of my fingers- could this be from old frostbite?
Q. I've been experiencing numbness, and pins-and-needles sensations in the tips of my fingers lately. I know I've had mild frostbite on the tips of all of my fingers over the last few years. (I lived in Northern Maine and had an aversion to gloves because I'm a smoker, and you can't work a lighter with gloves on) I lost a good amount of the sensitivity in my fingertips because of that. Could this new tingling and numbness be from the old frostbite? Or do you think its something different? Ugh.. skip the lectures on smoking.

A. This could be a result of something called "reynauds phenomenon". You can get this as a result of smoking but that is not always the cause. Here is a link to obtain more information regarding this condition: Hope this helps!

Tingling in left fingers...what is the cause?
Q. So my boss has been having some tingling and numbness in his left hand and fingers. His back is always hurting him that he frequently visits a chiropractor or gets a massage. Well today he says that he has had shortness of breath (just feels winded without doing anything) and feels tired alot and and chest pains. So he looks a couple things on-line and kinda gets a lil scared at what he is reading. I told him better to be safe than sorry, go to th doc and check it out. Well he's there now and I was just wondering what some people might knw or think about these symptoms/problems/whateve r you want to call them, what they could be? Thanks : )

Severe right arm pain with numbness, tingling & swelling for 5 days in a row...what could it be?
Q. I made an appointment with my doctor, but I can't get in until later in the week. The pain is very severe! It's in my elbow and shoots up underneath my tricep to the back of my armpit. It also shoots down the inside of my arm and into my wrist and hand. My fingers are numb and tingling. I can feel applied pressure but not pinching, and the fingers/knuckles are slightly swollen. The pain is so intense that I am crying in my sleep. It is at it's worst when I first wake up and it gradually eases up over the next several hours. Usually by 2-3 it is 90% better. I have only been sleeping on my back or on my left side since this began, but it doesn't seem to help at all. Has anyone had a similar experience, and what caused it? Or, does… [cont.]

A. When you made your doctor's appointment, did you describe your symptoms? If not, then call the office immediately and if you are unable to talk to your physician, talk to either a physicians assistant or nurse. Insist to be seen TODAY. If you did speak to a medical provider when you made your appointment, go to the nearest Urgent Care right now. The symptoms you've described indicate a need for immediate medical care. So, if there is not an Urgent Care in your area, go to the ER. Good luck and get well!
