Tingling Fingers?
Q. Why is it that sometimes the tips of my fingers, and my whole ring and pinky finger will tingle like they were just asleep? I haven't done any strenuous hand activities or anything that would overexert them, or cause the blood to leave my hand...any ideas?

A. I agree with the one that gave the answer about the diabetes. I have diabetes and wake up quite often with my fingers tingling along with feeling numb. It also could be from a nerve in your back or carpal tunnel. I would advise you to get it checked out by your physician.

What causes splotchy hands and tingling fingers?
Q. My husband, who is 50 years old, has noticed that the palms of his hands are red and splotchy and that two of the fingertips on his left hand have a numb/tingly sensation. My husband has herniated discs in the lumbar region of the spine and tingling problems with his left leg, but has never had any problems with the upper back or neck.

What can cause tingling fingers?
Q. My ring and pinkie fingers (mostly the pinkie) on my left hand have been quite tingly. This started randomly two days ago, but the tingling has not weakened down. As a matter of fact, it seems to be strengthening. What can cause this? Any information about it?
Asked by Spiral - Fri Jan 9 22:14:56 2009 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments
A. I periodically have a tingling sensation in all my fingers that can last for a couple hours at a time. My doctor suggested that it could be poor circulation. He then concluded that I was having mini-panic attacks. There is no telling what could be going on. Try to massage your arms, hands, and fingers and try to get more exercise. If you still experience this problem, make an appointment with your doctor.

A. There are problems a lot less dire than "advanced diabetes" that can cause pins-and-needles! Also, normally, when ceasing a course of any psychotropic medication, you don't just stop taking it abruptly. You have to taper off gradually: preferably with some medical supervision. However, you've only been taking a low dose for 3 days. You have to give the stuff a chance to work. Don't worry about "addiction," it's not addictive. Take the recommended dose for a good six weeks or so. Then, if you decide to change or stop meds, do so gradually. Here's one idea about the pins & needles. It could be a circulation problem, exp. since it's bilateral. Do you smoke? If so, stop. Nicotine is a vasoconstrictor: i.e., it'll squeeze shut the… [cont.]

What might be the reason to my tingling feeling for my fingers and toes?
Q. The tips of my fingers, and my upper half of my foot are tingling and when i curl my toes, sometimes they feel weird. Sort of numb, i guess. It's been like this for 3 days now, and it started after I sat through a long assembly at school for about two hours in a crammed space. I am worried that it might be nerve pressure or diabetes. Can you tell me what the cause might be and how to get rid of it?
Asked by SHINee - Sun Dec 13 23:30:07 2009 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Try drinking a lot of water. It helps with blood circulation, and if you don't drink enough then you might find your toes and fingers feeling a little numb/tingly. Another sign of this is that they get cold faster than anything else, and you have a hard time getting them warm. Being properly hydrated is essential for living healthily.

Why is the tip of my fingers tingling and going numb for a week now?
Q. it occurred last week in the middle of a 4 day 250 mile bike ride. I typically get tingling and numbness when riding for more than 3 hours, but its being constant since last Wednesday. Is it a nerve, circulation or nothing i should be worried about?
Asked by chokito - Wed Feb 4 15:13:28 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. concentrate efforts to massage the muscles in the neck and shoulder of the hands and give your wrists and elbows a break from riding. try and sleep with your wrists straight. you could use a wrist brace at night. circulation is being cut off at the nerve either in the neck or wrist. try some aspirin and a hot bath and massage to get circulation going and rest those areas mentioned.

Q. i am 21 yrs old. the numbness is greater in my right fingers and worse in the mornings. i also have brown stains at the tips of my fore finger and thumb of the right fingers. i have no other symptoms. Joshua for ur information, yes we do go to see a doctor but doctors are sometimes too far away, too expensive or as in my case i simply do not have the time to go this morning and would like to know what to expect once i go this evening. u do not have to be so rude about it.

A. Tingling in your fingers is probably as something as simple as a trapped nerve, repetetive strain injury (if you have been using your mobile or keyboard a lot) or carpel tunnel syndrome. Staining on fingers is normally caused by handling substances such as potassium permanganate or tobacco but I found one condition which can cause this , but it has other symptoms which you dont mention. It is Hemochromatosis

Why is my entire right arm including my fingers numb and tingling all the time?
Q. I am 18 years old and my entire right arm including my fingers has been tingling and going numb for the past 16 days. Some people say it could be a pinched nerve. But I really don't know. If it is a pinched nerve, what are some cures for it? Does anyone have an idea what could be wrong and what I should do about it? Thanks!

A. Yes, it's definately something to do with a pinched nerve or a damaged nerve. It should pass on it's own. If it continues or seems to get worse, see your doctor. Your doctor can give you medicine for nerve pain called Neurontin.

A. I have had this happen off and on for years,I was told it was from carpal tunnel. I also have a ganglion cyst on top of my wrist. The pressure of the cyst bearing on my nerves sometimes causes the tingling or numbing sensation in my arm or hand. You're better off talking to your doctor or going to a specialst and have it tested. Good luck with whatever you do!!

My fingers are numb and tingling... Can anyone give me an explanation?
Q. I'm a 19 year old girl. Over the last few hours my fingers and hands have started tingling. I didn't get much sleep last night and I had a few alcoholic beverages, I think this might have something do to with it. If I stop moving my hands my whole hand goes numb and tingles. I thought I would ask to see if anyone can give me a reasonable explanation before I rush off to the doctor.

A. is it left or right? if it' left, then, by God, you need to see a doctor. It might be that you might be suffering from minor stroke. You drank last night, right? Do this for the time being...can you smile? is the whole left side of your body also numb? Can you raise both of your hands? Speak a sentence or two. Does your words slur? Can you understand what you're saying? If you can't do some or all of these things, it's time to go the doctor and be sure you have someone with you...

I get neck pains and tingling in my fingers when drinking alcohol, does anyone know what this is?
Q. When consuming just about any alcoholic beverage, I get a tingling in my fingertips and stiff neck pains. The tingling can spread down to my feet, or just remain in my hands. It becomes really intense and then, after 1-2 minutes, it disipates and goes away. This happens within the first 1-2 sips of the drink but from then on, once the pain goes away, everything is fine. Has anyone else experienced this or heard of anyone else talking about it? My doctor was clueless...it's been fairly consistent for the last 15 years and I've never figured it out.
