Urine smell?
Q. I have a puppy that is now 5 months old. He will use a pee pad, but he also misses it occasionally. We have tile all over our house. I mop the area with disinfectant 2-3 times every time he does this. He apparently can still smell where he urinated before even with the disinfectant. I need something to get the urine smell off of the floor so he will not go back to that area. Any suggestions??

A. You can clean the area with apple cider vinegar, that should neutralize the odor?

Urine Smell?
Q. recently, there has been a change in my urine. For one, it is starting to smell. For example, a week ago i went and i smelt a really bad smell, it was my urine, but it was clear. After that I drank some water, smell was reduced greatly. The thing is, after that, whenever i went to the BR, it tickled when i peed, it didnt burn tho. it just felt weird. But urine was still clean and the past 2 days, my urine smelled like, baked fish. Weird. And i went a few minutes ago, the urine looked like a slight yellow green. Am i dehydrated? Is it my food pattern? I havent had a lot of watet the past 5 days and my diet was mixed. HELP! im 15 male

A. You are not by any chance eating asparagus are you? I know it sounds weird but it can make your urine stink like hell and turn it light green. I have diabetes and my disease has never effected my urine color or smell.

Get rid of mouse urine smell on clothes?
Q. My clothes reek of mouse urine! How can I get rid of the smell effectively and safetly? I tried washing it normally in the wash, but it hasn't helped a bit. In fact it made some of my other clothes in the same wash smell like mice urine as well. Can I use same products used to get rid of cat urine? Help!

A. Do you really want to wear them again? if so I would soak in Napisan for a day or 2 and then wash in very hot water then hang outside to dry and keep repeating until they smell OK again. I guess whatever you use for cat urine is the same as mouse ,why are so many incontinent animals living with you anyway?

A. Have you treated the mattress with anything before now. You've been given some great tips already. But if the urine has been in the mattress for a long time, you will probably have to replace it. If so, there are deals out there and you don't have to replace the box spring. Then I would cover it with a plastic mattress cover under a mattress pad. Good luck.

How do I get rid of cat urine smell in my carpet?
Q. We just bought this house. The previous owners had a cat. I smell cat urine. I have an extractor carpet cleaner. Is there a product I can add to the rug shampoo solution that will kill the urine smell? The trouble is, the carpets are top quality and practically new. I hate to yank them out. What can I do to remove the offensive odour?
Asked by Rikki - Sun Aug 9 18:39:23 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments
A. You might have to replace the carpet pad because no carpet cleaner can get the smell out of pad under the carpet. Urine eliminators can treat the surface but the smell will be in the carpet backing as well. If the carpet is really worth saving then i'd clean the he!! out of the carpet with a urine eliminator making sure as much water is removed as possible. Let it completely dry (several days) then have the pad replaced. The reason to do it that way is you don't want urine water going down into brand new pad..

My bathroom has a really strong urine smell what could this be caused from and what is a way to get rid of it?
Q. I know it's a bathroom of course it's gonn'a smell like urine but it's so strong I can't barely stand it. I clean my bathroom about 3-4 times a month.

A. Do you have men or boys in your home? If so, the floors and walls around the toilet need to be cleaned regularly, as well as the toilet itself. You may need to replace the toilet seat and any bath mats or rugs that you have in the bathroom. If you have carpet around the toilet it should be cleaned with something that will neutralize the urine. I've found that spraying white vinegar on the carpet works well. The vinegar smell will dissipate as it dries and you can then clean the carpet with something a little more fragrant. Wall paper will also absorb urine and I've tried lightly spraying and wiping it with vinegar and it helps, but I've also had to completely strip the paper and paint the bathroom to get the smell out of the walls. What is the best way to eliminate pet urine smell from the cement basement?
Q. My friend had 3 cats and 2 dogs that did not go out. We have repainted the upstairs, but the cellar still smells terrible. How can we eliminate that smell. Is it true not to use chlorine as ammonia in the cats urine may cause a reaction?
Asked by Qusan - Thu Jun 25 13:18:24 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Go to any pet store and get a gallon or 1-1/2 gallon bottle of Nature's Miracle. It contains an enzyme that breaks down organic proteins, including those in pet urine. Pour or mop it liberally on the entire basement floor, and let it soak for a few hours (or over night). Sop up the excess and let it air dry. If it still smells, do another application.

A. Best advice, neuter the one that isn't neutered. It will be a constant thing when one urinates in one area, the other will go to cover it up...back and forth. It has to do with the hormones of the intact male. Then clean the area with bleach and water.

Best way to remove urine smell from clothes?
Q. My daughter has issues with bedwetting, and the bedding and her pajamas still faintly smell like urine even after washing several times.
Asked by Paula - Tue Mar 20 08:56:13 2007 - - 7 Answers - 0 Comments
A. My daughter had the same problem and our solution is 1/2 cup of baking soda in each wash. It boosts the laundry detergent's cleaning power for normal clothes and pulls the urine smell out of "accident" clothes. Follow with a 1/2 cup of vinegar in the rinse (you can put it in one of those downy balls for ease of use) to help more with the smell and plus, it's a great substitute for fabric softener. Washing immediately after the accident is also really helpful. If you can't wash right away, even rinsing out with cold water will keep the urine from fermenting and setting into the cloth. Hope that helps!

A. You can purchase expensive pet odor eliminators from a pet store or try vinegar and water. Scrub the area with the vinegar and water solution. It will smell bad until it dries. You may have to do it a second time but it is much cheaper than expensive neutralizer and usually does the trick.

A. Urine (Ammonia) is caused by saturation of the stall flooring. I assume your stall floor is dirt. Working it up will not remove the urine smell, the dirt either needs to be replaced or built over to get rid of it. I will digress a moment - by the time a human can smell the ammonia in a stall, the occupant equine has already sustained damage to their respiratory system - a smelly stall is very very bad. The proper thing to do is to remove the bedding and dirt down to dry. Then begin building the stall floor again with large gravel a few inches, then pea gravel a few inches, then sand a few inches, then probably 4-6 inches of sawdust or shaving for bedding. To solve your little problem ,fill a spray bottle with white vinegar and spray the areas or the whole carpet if you wish, let it stand for a bit then steam clean, in between shampoos you could also sprinkle baking soda on the carpet let stand and then run the Vacuum and keep the windows open as much as possible White vinegar, Bissel shampoo or Hoover, a steam cleaner , a scrub brush some foam shampoo to clean minor spots.

BTW i don't own the cats anymore and there hasnt been any cats in the house for over a month now, this happened before i gave them away. any suggestions at all? tried flipping the mattress but i dont think that helped do you thnink the smell will still show up if i… [cont.]

A. Whatever you use, make sure it contains enzymes that DESTROY pet odors. If you simply try to clean the mattress, you will not get all of the urine that has soaked deep into the mattress. I would go to a pet store and ask for an enzyme-based cleaner. I have carpets cleaned in my rental property that were literally soaked with cat urine - down to the padding. They use an enzyme product that breaks down the odors. It is amazing. I used to replace the carpet as you could NEVER get the smell of a cat out. Good Luck.
